“Entrepreneurs as Engines of Growth: You can Be one Too “
He is an Economist with Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, U.S.A. He taught Economics in the University and was also an advisor to the Wisconsin Planning Department.
He joined the Planning Commission on a short assignment in National Planning Commission, New Delhi. He then came to Gujarat as Chief Economic Adviser of GIDC and GIIC where he pioneered country’s first Entrepreneurship Development Program for ‘Creating Supply of Entrepreneurs’ and also provided start-up loans to new entrepreneurs.
In 1983 he became the Founder Director of Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), India’s and Asia’s first National Institute set up by Industrial Development Bank of India, ICICI, IFCI, and State Bank to create, promote and support entrepreneurship in the country. When he ended his tenure at EDII in 2003, EDII had acquired International recognition from the World Bank, the UNIDO, ILO and the Commonwealth Secretariat. He led missions and counseled over 20 Asian and African countries in his career.
He has been awarded the prestigious Agakhan International Award for pioneering work in entrepreneurship by Agakhan Foundation, Geneva. He was awarded country’ prestigious Civilian Award, Padma Shri in 2017 for his original work in entrepreneurship education and training.
